The Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Mr David Briggs CVO MBE, has paid tribute to Mr Robin Wendt CBE DL who died recently aged 80.
Mr Wendt was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 1990, having served ten years as Clerk to the Lieutenancy as Chief Executive of Cheshire County Council. He was subsequently appointed Secretary/Chief Executive of the Association of County Councils based in London although he continued to have a home in Chester. He was also President of the Cheshire Association of Parish Councils.
In his tribute the Lord-Lieutenant said:
“Robin Wendt was a Public Servant of the highest calibre. He had served as Principal Secretary to the Secretary of State for Social Services before moving to Chester as Chief Executive of Cheshire County Council in 1979. Thus began his association with the Cheshire Lieutenancy. Over the years, I – and my predecessor Lord-Lieutenants – benefited greatly from his wise counsel and experience both as Clerk and as a Deputy Lieutenant. I send my deepest condolences to his wife Prue and his family.”
